Design for Additive
Optimized for maximum performance in 3D printing

We turn your idea into a drawing that is ready for production – and for 3D printing. We engineer your part so that it becomes lighter, consists of fewer individual parts and can be produced without expensive tooling. Don't have a drawing yet? No problem: we measure your existing part and create the matching CAD design from it.

From part to CAD model

Whether original part, tool or prototype: with our Keyence structured-light measuring system, we capture the geometry without contact. From the measurement data, we create a parametric CAD model that can be specifically adapted and developed further – not just a digital image of the surface.

You will find information on the process, part sizes and supported data formats on our 3D scanning page.

  • Contact-free measurement using structured light
  • Colored polygon mesh as the measurement result, STL and OBJ for direct printing
  • Reverse engineering into a parametric CAD model
  • Fine structures and small parts with high detail resolution

Digital Surfacing

Digital Surfacing – texture directly in CAD

We apply surface textures directly to your CAD data – from leather grain to technical textures. The texture is created digitally on the model and printed directly along with the part.

  • Grains, textures and patterns applied digitally to the part – e.g., leather grain
  • No tooling, no etching: the texture comes straight out of the printer
  • Full control over depth, gradient and transitions of the texture
  • Ideal for grip surfaces, interior components and design samples

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about engineering

Yes. Using 3D scanning, we digitize existing parts (reverse engineering) and make them printable. In addition, we offer complete engineering and design services – from an idea or hand sketch to the finished CAD model.

STEP or STL files are ideal. However, we can accept almost any 3D data format – just send what you have, and we will take care of the preparation. Without CAD data, photos of the part are enough for an initial assessment; you can upload them in the contact form.

We check the printability of your data and automatically repair obvious mesh errors (e.g., open surfaces). A design review of suitability for your intended use – including optimization for the printing technology – is available as an engineering service.

Yes – this is one of our most common use cases. We scan or reconstruct the original part, optimize it for the right printing technology and manufacture it from a quantity of 1. This keeps machines and equipment running for which original spare parts are no longer available.
